The Challenge

The Discovery Channel sought a way to expand upon their successful TV series Connections. Award winning author James Burke wrote a book exploring how discordant elements in the world are all connected. The Discovery Channel wanted to create a CD ROM title of the same name. This was a first; a television show that spawned a book and then developed as a CD ROM title.

Discovery Multimedia came to SOME Interactive (now a part of SFPG), and the result is Discovery's largest selling product. Connections was given 5 Stars and Editor's Choice by Computer Gaming World for this game that asks players to restore Burke's "web" which is being torn apart by the forces of chaos.

The Approach

There are 25 characters, including James Burke, featured in this beautifully rendered game that blends live action with computer generated 3D backgrounds and animation. Connections is a game that challenges the intellect and entertains the imagination. Players are immersed in virtual environments, looking for clues that will explain how they've entered one world and how they can escape to another. Players are forced to draw "connections" between clues, only to emerge from their virtual world with a fuller understanding of the real world.
